The finest opals in the world come from three different regions in Australia; New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia. Other forms of opal are found in other countries, such as; Brazil, Mexico, Ethiopia, Peru, Nicaragua, Hungary and the United States. They come in a variety of colours, these ranging from yellow, blue and green to fiery red, orange and voilet. The rarest opal in the world is the black opal, it is worth over £10,000 per carat.
